The dangerous disease whose risk has doubled in individuals over the age of 55

According to new research, dementia (memory loss) cases in the United States will double by 2060, with approximately 1 million people being affected by this disease every year

According to Fox News, this research was conducted by Johns Hopkins University and other institutions, analyzing data from 16,000 individuals whose health has been studied since 1987. The study indicates that the increasing cases of dementia are caused by aging, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, unhealthy diets, sedentary lifestyles, and mental health issues.

According to Dr. Marc Siegel, a professor at New York University, 45% of adults in the United States are obese. Obesity leads to inflammation, diabetes, and high blood pressure, which are major risk factors for dementia. Heart disease and other illnesses can also negatively impact mental health. The research states that individuals with the APOE4 gene variant are at a higher risk of dementia.

Additionally, Black individuals are also found to have a greater risk of developing this disease.

Experts say that the same measures taken to prevent heart disease can help prevent dementia or reduce its severity. They suggest that routine medical check-ups should include mental health tests. Adopting a healthy lifestyle, avoiding obesity, and protecting against heart diseases can significantly reduce the risks of dementia.
